Diary, 1862-1863.

Armstrong's diary covers the years 1862-1863 of his life in the Army of Tennessee. He discusses camp life, troop movements to Chickamauga (Tenn.), Missionary Ridge (Tenn.), Chattanooga (Tenn.) and Dalton (Ga.), and the routine existence of a soldier. Armstrong recopied some entries several times and these are intermixed with the original entries.

Charles Jacob Armstrong served as a Sergeant in Captain Dodson's Company C of the 33rd Alabama. He was born in Butler County (Ala.) in 1836 and worked as a farmer until his enlistment in 1862.
